We made a huge mistake when choosing between Advantix vs Frontline for our pets and we made the flea situation much worse.
In the spring our dog Scoobie started scratching and itching like crazy. We realized we had forgotten to give him his Frontline at the beginning of the flea and tick season. Not a problem, we figured. We had some Frontline that we had picked up very cheaply online still in the cabinet. We gave him the frontline (we didn't realize the distinction of advantix vs frontline) and then realized that we didn't have any for our cat. I immediately ordered some online for her and patiently waited for the Frontline to arrive. Huge Mistake!
We were unaware of the subtle difference when comparing Advantix vs Frontline. Since we gave our dog Advantix and not Frontline the fleas did not die. The Frontline made the fleas leave the dog but it did not kill them like the Advantix would have.
When the fleas left our dog the fleas all went in search of a new host and very quickly found our cat. Our poor cat. What is a minor flea infestation to a fifty pound dog was quite the opposite for our six pound cat. Since we did not give our dog Advantix and kill those fleas they found our poor cat and made her very sick, very quickly.
The simple solution is to always give Advantix to a pet that already has fleas. This way the Advantix will kill the fleas and prevent them from hiding out somewhere else in your home until another host comes along. We learned our lesson and we always keep a supply of Frontline and Advantix for our dog and cat on hand.
