Four Foods Your Cat Should Never Eat

I know my cats, and I know that they will stick their faces in just about any foods that we leave out on the counter. Most people don't realize that many of the basic ingredients and spices that are in our foods can be harmful, even deadly to our feline pets.

These foods could kill your cat.

fronline for cats

We Didn't Always Use Frontline.

We made a big mistake! Not only did our cat get fleas but our cat gave the fleas to our other cat which in turn gave the fleas to our dog, before we even knew what hit us. We keep Frontline on hand at all times now. We had to bomb our whole house just because we got a little lazy with the frontline.

Now we stock up on inexpensive Frontline here every three to six months.

An Easy List Of Four "NO" Foods

I hate the idea of not giving my cats milk. They love it and why is it so cute to watch your cats little pink tongue slurp milk out of a shallow dish.

Cats, just like people, are lactose intolerant. Cats bodies function In much the same way as humans. When they are young they can digest milk but as they get onlder they lose the natural enzimes in their stomachs that help them to break down the protein. Milk will often cause cramping, gas, and bad breath in cats.

You can buy a product called Cat-Sip that is free of the specific protein that causes cramps, gas, and bad breath in cat. We only give milk to our cats like cat-sip that is free of proteins that give cats gas.

You have to be careful with tomatoes and your cat. They have the potential to make your cat very sick and they are a common food item around all of our homes. The important thing to know about tomatoes is that if your cat eats one (even a small cherry tomato) they can become violently ill will lower gastrointestinal symptoms.

I have never had a cat try to eat raisins or grapes but that doesn't mean your cat wont. The toxin amounts are small in these foods but there is an important warning about these foods from the ASPCA. Basically, the warning states not to let your cats eat even the smallest amount of these foods.

Most people know that they can't give chocolate to their cats. "Baker's chocolate" has the highest levels of theobromine, the ingredient in chocolate that can make your cat sick.

If your cat eats chocolate call your veterinarian right away. They will have a few questions for you. Treatment for your cat eating chocolate will depend on a few factors. Be prepared to answer questions about the type of chocolate your cat ate, the weight of your cat, and how much was eaten.
